This is what's new at K2

Throughout the past summer season the best of old favourites and brand new varieties was on display at our K2 farmers’ days across South Africa.

Annual highlights on our K2 calendar are the vegetable farmers’ days, held in three provinces (North-West, Gauteng and the Western Cape) across South Africa. These days offer growers from the respective areas the opportunity to experience the extensive range of crops and cultivars on offer by Klein Karoo Seed Marketing.

The first event of the season was the Brits farmers’ day held on 30 November 2016 at the experimental farm located in Losperfontein. The second farmers’ day was held on 8 February 2017 in George at the recently established experimental farm near Blanco. The final event for the current season was held at the Bapsfontein experimental Farm on 15 March 2017 as part of the annual K2 corporate day. With more than 150 different vegetable cultivars on display, visitors were able to make direct comparisons between the various new and established K2 varieties as well as popular cultivars from industry competitors.

Growers and media representatives attending these events were guided through the different crop sections on display by our in-house crop specialists and granted the unique opportunity to see our exciting new cultivars.

These included new tomato varieties such as SV 4129 TH* from Seminis as well as a new round determinate variety Teccadade* from Bakker Brothers.

It was also with great excitement that we launched our new melon Karoo Dew* (Honeydew type) and the watermelons Sentinel (All-sweet type), Tapiwa* (Crimson type) and Makea* (All-sweet type).

Our current range of cultivars from Bejo Zaden has also seen the addition of a new carrot Namibia*, to the already well-known favourites of Baltimore, Nectar and Newhall. Following the recently launched yellow beetroot Boldor*, the new white beetroot Avalanche* was on display and received a huge amount of interest from attendees at this year’s events.

Besides the ever popular Seminis sweet-peppers such as PS 16351609, King Arthur and Revelation the new SV 6131 PB* is now also commercially available from your nearest K2 depot or sales representative in your area. The brand new sweet-pepper Amarelo* (green to yellow) has also been a great addition to our current range of sweet-peppers.

Please make sure you don’t miss our next farmers’ day in your area. These events are free of charge and offer you the opportunity to ask crop/cultivar specific questions as well as to network with various industry leaders in attendance. Follow us on Facebook and/or Twitter to see when the next event takes place at an experimental farm near you. We hope to see you there.
